If a tooth cannot be saved despite the use of the most modern tooth preservation methods, prosthodontics makes it possible to restore aesthetics and chewing function.

Large tooth defects can be restored with a partial or full crown, lost teeth are replaced with a fixed bridge. If many or all teeth are missing, removable partial or full dentures are used.

In the case of healthy neighbouring teeth, it is often better to close the gap with an dental implant (link to implantology) in order not to grind the neighbouring teeth for a bridge. In case of missing molars or very large gaps, removable dentures can be avoided by utilising dental implants. If the total prosthesis is no longer stable in position due to severe bone loss, implants can help to regain stability.
